JAG-K stands for Jobs for America’s Graduates, Kansas, but what is JAG really about? What do students learn about in JAG, who is in JAG, and when are events happening? This article will provide answers to the most frequently asked questions. The who, what, when, where, and why.

Students may wonder why the school added it as a class. JAG was made into a class to help students figure out what career path they may want to pursue in the future. In the JAG class, the goal is to talk about different career paths one can take after high school, deciding if and when to apply for colleges, or discussing the option of enlisting in the military. In class, students take different assessments to see what they are skilled at and what they may enjoy doing so they can find a path to do something fun and more enjoyable. In the JAG club, events are planned such as college visits, and they do different activities to help out the community.
The first activity JAG has started is “Mats for the Homeless.” The reason there are JAG boxes in every advisory is that the class is collecting plastic bags to make into mats for the homeless to sleep on. The first big event that the club is doing is the I&I ceremony, which is scheduled for Oct 24, 2025, at 9:45 – during advisory on the Friday after homecoming. There are also several college trips planned this year, including going to Emporia, K-State, KU, and maybe more. At the end of the school year there is an annual leadership conference where they travel to compete in different leadership roles to prove their leadership skills.
Some topics the class covers are life skills such as how to do taxes, buy a house or vehicle, start a business, how to be a leader, teamwork, etc.
There are different positions for members in the JAG club, and every year there is a reselection for any new students interested in joining or being more involved. The students and their current positions in the club are shown at the bottom of the article.
In conclusion, JAG-K has been added to our school to help students who don’t have a plan, or help students who do have a plan look more into what they are interested in. It will help students gain experience and learn from many different life situations they are put in, and work past any challenges such as public speaking. Any interested students who want to join JAG can find Mrs. Read in room 125 during one of her free periods.
