KMEA Prep Day

By Emma Jordan

On October 3, 2025, approximately 30 ACHS students boarded the Spirit bus, bound for Emporia State University. When they arrived, the 400 students in attendance split into their sections. (Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto 1, Alto 2, Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Baritone/Bass 1, and Bass 2). Most of the ACHS students were Altos. The treble and low voices split into two groups to rehearse their songs, “Hope Lingers On” (Soprano/Alto), “Rock-A My Soul” (Tenor/Bass), and “O Vos Omnes” (SATB).

At 11 a.m., the students met in the cafeteria for lunch. ACHS graduates Easton Mead, Danica Schettler, and Brodie Wiesner ate with them. After lunch, the Emporia State Choir put on performances for the students. The ESU Acapella and Chamber Choirs each performed various songs conducted by Dr. Joshua Donalson.

Treble and low voices then split once again, this time switching clinicians. Afterwards, all sections gathered in Albert Taylor Hall to rehearse as a group. At 1:45 p.m. ACHS students left so they could arrive back at school on time. On the bus ride home, every single student sang their heart out to Disney songs.
