Bulldogs’ Thoughts on Weights

By Westin Wright and Landon Totten

Welcome back to school, Bulldogs! To learn more about one of the most popular electives on campus, we interviewed several students about their experiences in the weights class.

Weights is a course where students build strength and improve fitness through weightlifting. The class is taught by Luke Catloth and offers students a chance to stay active during the school day. Our goal was to gather opinions from both beginners and experienced lifters by asking questions such as: What is your favorite lift? Your least favorite lift? How long have you been lifting? What is your max on your favorite lift? And what do you think about the class overall?

We spoke with Brody Thompson Hermreck, Izzy Brown, and Sawyer Shaffer. Brody said his favorite lift is the deadlift, while Izzy chose the clean and Sawyer named the bench press as his favorite. When asked about their least favorite lifts, Brody said the clean, Izzy said the press, and Sawyer said the squat.

Brody shared that this is his first year lifting, while both Izzy and Sawyer said they have been lifting for four years. Despite their different experience levels, all three students agreed that weights is a great class. They said it allows them to work out for free without having to go anywhere and provides a helpful brain break from their more academic classes.

All of the students interviewed plan to continue taking weights throughout high school and agree that it is a fun and beneficial class for staying active and healthy.
