ACHS girls wrestlers are about halfway through the wrestling season and plenty of things have happened, good and bad. The team is such a small group, so all the little things that happen make a difference to them all. New changes are coming up, and the team is excited to see what the rest of the season holds in store for them.
The girls started practicing around a month before their first meet, and the team has made multiple changes so far this season. Coach Jolie Ziegler, most often called Coach Z, is a new addition to the team, and many of the athletes complimented her attitude and strong drive to train the girls to be winners. Another big change is the fact that the female wrestlers are now practicing in the same room with the boys. This is an important change because it shows how the girls can compete with the guys and that both are treated equally.
As January comes to an end, wrestlers face the most difficult time of the year because state and regionals are soon. Regionals are February 13th through the 14th, and State is February 27th. Listed below are the members of the girls’ team and what weight bracket they are currently competing in.
Serenity Boothe – 145
Obree Barnes – 140
Avery Coyer – 135
Hailey Gregory – 130
Ashlyn Nelson – 120
