ACHS Boys and Girls Wrestling Compete at Paola

By Landon Totten and Westin Wright

Wrestling is a sport of combat that requires a lot of hard work and grit to achieve greatness. It consists of matches lasting around 6 minutes, during which there is nothing but fighting and working against an opponent. It is a solo sport, so students can only rely on themselves to win and work hard.

Last week, the ACHS boys and girls varsity wrestling team competed at Paola High School. They had 4 wrestlers place out of 8 for the boys and 3 out of 4 for the girls. The girls who placed are Ashlyn Nelson with a record of 11 wins and 8 losses, Avery Coyer with 8 wins and 6 losses, and Obree Barnes with a record of 8 wins and 8 losses. On the boys’ side, Braxton Barnes scored 29 wins and 4 losses, Sawyer Schaffer had 12 wins and 9 losses, Braxton Williams had 10 wins and 7 losses, and Lucas Mills had a record of 13 wins and 18 losses.

Braxton Barnes came away as a first-place medalist. Ashlyn Nelson, Avery Coyer, and Obree Barnes won third-place medals. Braxton Williams and Sawyer Schaffer both ended up in fourth place, and Lucas Mills ended up in sixth.
