Girls Basketball: Burlington Game Recap

By Kaylee Scheckel, Morgan Gooding, and Hayleigh Spears

The girls’ basketball teams played at Burlington High School last night (Feb. 3). The C-team and varsity didn’t come away with a win, but they gave it their all. The JV girls pulled off a close win with a score of 31-27. We spoke with players from each team to hear their thoughts on the games.

First, we talked to Brooklyn Kellerman, a junior on the varsity team. When asked how she thought she did, she said she “did her job.” About the team’s performance, Kellerman said they executed well in the first half but didn’t perform as strongly in the second half.

Next, we spoke with Lilly Beaudry, a freshman who plays on both the JV and C-teams. Beaudry said the JV team “did really well, but of course we had a few mistakes.” She scored 12 points in the game and felt proud of her performance.

Finally, we interviewed Kora Gaines, a freshman on JV and C-teams, about the C-team game. Gaines said she “did okay” but didn’t play to her full potential. Her favorite part of the game was scoring 2 points.

Overall, the girls played hard and showed a lot of effort. If they had all played to their potential, the outcomes might have been different. Upcoming games include February 6 at Girard High School, February 10 at Oskawatomie High School, and February 13 at Iola High School for varsity and Iola Elementary School for JV and C-team.
