After a long day at school, everyone has their own way of unwinding. We asked some students what they do to relieve stress after the final bell, and here’s what they had to say:
Freshman Hailey Gregory said, “Long hot showers while listening to music.” Hailey’s choice is a classic way to relax. After a rough day, a long shower with your favorite tunes is the perfect way to reset and cool down.
Sophomore Kylah Stoy said, “Sleeping.” Napping is essential, according to Kylah. School can drain your energy, so a good nap is a must if you want to recharge for the rest of the day.
Sophomore Shelby O’Connor said, “Go to the rec and shoot basketballs or go on a walk.” For athletic students, Shelby says it’s important to practice outside of team practices. Shooting hoops or taking a walk can help release stress and give your mind a break after sitting in class all day.
Senior Lizzy Farrar said, “Work.” Some students, like Lizzy, find working after school to be relaxing—especially if it’s a job they enjoy. While not everyone feels this way, doing something you love (even if it’s work) can be a great stress reliever.
Sophomore Lilly Wadewitz said, “Go to Mexican and hang out with my boyfriend.” Lilly likes to unwind by spending time with friends and her boyfriend. Whether it’s grabbing food or just hanging out, spending time with people you care about can help you decompress.
Sophomore Timber Vermillion said, “Eat food, yell at homework, ride horses, and cuddle puppies.” Timber has a multi-step stress relief plan. Yelling at homework is a familiar ritual, and activities like riding horses or cuddling puppies help release any leftover tension.
Sophomore Kamrie Feuerborn said, “Riding my rocket donkeys.” Kamrie affectionately calls her fast, big-eared horses “rocket donkeys.” With so many horses to care for, riding is both a workout and a stress reliever for her.
From hot showers and naps to horses and puppy cuddles, students find creative ways to relax after school. No matter what your method is, taking time for yourself is key to managing the stress of high school life.
