Teachers Share Their Biggest Pet Peeves

Most people have at least one pet peeve they just cannot stand. Whether it is loud chewing or slow walkers in the hallway, everyone has something that gets on their nerves. But what about teachers? What are the things students do that frustrate them the most?

Several teachers were asked the question, “What is your worst teacher pet peeve that students do?” Some of the responses were expected, while others were more surprising.

English and Journalism teacher Mrs. Sigel said, “When students are talking while I am talking, it drives me crazy.” Agriculture teacher Mr. Gillespie, also known as Gilly, shared a different concern. He said his biggest pet peeve is “When students put in no effort or are just being straight up lazy.”

Phones were another common response. Several teachers mentioned that phones are one of the biggest distractions in the classroom and a major reason students lose focus during lessons. Even a quick glance at a notification can interrupt learning.

The school librarian, Mrs. Velvick, shared a pet peeve that may surprise some students. She said, “When multiple students check out the same book for a class and do not actually read it, but instead look up random summaries online.”

Overall, almost everyone has a pet peeve that really triggers them. The best thing students and teachers can do is respect one another and communicate when something bothers them.
