This week, FFA students from Anderson County attended a veterinary science and welding contest. Several students who competed were interviewed about how well they did, how they could have prepared more, and what they thought were the easiest and hardest parts of the contest.

Jadyn Parks, a sophomore who placed first on the intermediate-level team, said the easiest part of the contest for her was the procedures practicum. When asked about the hardest part, she said it was “the math section because I didn’t study for it at all.” Parks said she was very happy with where she placed, finishing in first place with only a three-point difference between her and second place.

The second student interviewed was Lillian Morgan, a sophomore who placed second on the senior team. She said the easiest part of the contest was the anatomy and physiology portion, while the hardest part was the written exam. Morgan said that next time she plans to prepare by practicing more exams so she knows better what to expect. When asked if she was happy with her placement, she said she definitely was.

The third student interviewed was Hope Pracht, a sophomore on the senior team who placed sixth. She said the easiest part for her was anatomy and physiology. “The anatomy and physiology was 100% the easiest part because Brooke explained everything to me right before the contest,” Pracht said. The hardest part for her was the math portion because there were many conversions that she found confusing. When asked if she was happy with her placement, she said, “Yeah, but there’s always room for improvement. Next time I will definitely learn how to do more math problems before I go.”

Overall, Anderson County performed extremely well at the contest, placing first overall as a team in all three divisions.
