FBLA State Competition

By Hailey Gregory and Addison Kettler

Do students know what FBLA stands for? FBLA, or Future Business Leaders of America, recently held its state competition from March 30 to March 31 at the Stormont Vail Events Center in Topeka.

This year, Anderson County had a strong group of students attend the competition. In total, 22 students made the trip, including 16 high school students and 6 junior high students. They joined hundreds, and possibly thousands, of students from schools all across Kansas to compete in a wide variety of business-related events.

The competition was split into two days. The first day included written tests and preliminary events. Not all students advanced to the second day, which focused on speaking finals. Only those who qualified in their events moved on.

Students representing Anderson County who advanced to the second day included the parliamentary procedure team and Freshman Hailey Gregory, who competed in Intro to Public Speaking. These students returned to compete in the final round of their events.

At this time, national qualifiers have not yet been announced. Results are expected in the coming weeks and will include outcomes from both testing and speaking events.

Overall, Anderson County had a strong showing at the state competition. Whether students competed for one day or advanced to finals, they represented their school with effort and dedication. Updates on national qualifiers will be shared once results are officially released.

Students interested in joining FBLA next year are encouraged to talk to Mr. Huber about getting involved.
