The girls’ wrestling team faced one of the most challenging stretches of their season during the final weekend of January, competing in three meets over three consecutive days. From an emotional senior night to two demanding tournaments, the team showed determination and resilience throughout the weekend.
On Thursday, January 29, the team hosted its senior night, marking the final home meet for seniors Avery Coyer and Obree Barnes. The night was emotional as the seniors walked onto the mat with their parents and shared their plans for life after graduation. Adding to the special atmosphere, Obree Barnes performed the national anthem before the competition began. The team turned in strong performances, with the following results:
- Obree Barnes – 2nd
- Avery Coyer – 3rd
- Hailey Gregory – 2nd
- Serenity Boothe – 3rd
- Ashlyn Nelson – 4th
The following day, Friday, January 30, the team traveled to Baldwin for one of the toughest meets of the season. The Baldwin tournament is known for its high level of competition, featuring 22 girls’ wrestling teams from across Kansas. Despite the challenging field, the girls competed hard and earned these placings:
- Ashlyn Nelson – 4th
- Obree Barnes – 4th
- Serenity Boothe – 5th
Early Saturday morning, January 31, the team left the school around 5 a.m. to compete in the Fredonia tournament. The all-day event featured both girls’ and boys’ teams from various schools. After two exhausting days of competition, the girls continued to push themselves and wrestle with intensity. Every member of the team placed at the tournament, with the following results:
- Ashlyn Nelson – 3rd
- Hailey Gregory – 4th
- Avery Coyer – 3rd
- Obree Barnes – 4th
- Serenity Boothe – 2nd
Overall, it was a long and demanding weekend for the girls’ wrestling team, but their performances showed growth, perseverance, and commitment. With one week remaining until league and two weeks until regionals, the team appears to be on the right track to compete at a high level. The Bulldog Barker wishes the girls the best of luck in the upcoming weeks and will continue to provide updates on their season.
