From Denmark to ACJSHS: Laura’s Exchange Student Exxperience

By Allie Kummer

This year, Anderson County Jr./Sr. High School has one international student, Laura Westenholz, a junior from Sønderborg, Denmark. Laura came to Garnett this school year and is currently staying with Nora Thompson.

When Laura first arrived at ACJSHS, she felt excited to experience a new school and culture. One of the first things she noticed was how students interacted with one another and how different the American school system was from the one she was used to in Denmark.

At her former school, students had more breaks throughout the day and followed a schedule that was more similar to a college schedule. Students also stayed in the same classroom rather than switching classes throughout the day.

One thing Laura enjoys about ACJSHS is how quickly the school day seems to go by.

So far, Laura has enjoyed her experience at ACJSHS and has already met many great people. As she continues her year in America, she is getting the chance to experience a different culture, make new friends, and see what makes school in the United States unique.
